How can I now apply the security updates if enable the dGPU prior to updating I can't use the computer, and if I don't I'll probably find myself in the dreaded boot-loop again.? Just forget about security updates? You may simply need to restart your system once more after every update. You can also consider updating to Mojave or Catalina unofficially if you use your MacBook Pro for personal use as some graphics programs may fail loading detecting your faulty GPU disabled. I hope that this helps and best regards from Spain, Alberto. It appears that resetting the PRAM has unset something that was allowing it to work, and now I have a bricked macbook? Any help would be appreciated. Shining a light through the apple logo (to illuminate the LCD) shows nothing (previously it going to sleep stoppped the backlight coming on, so I used this to allow me to restart it). Now when I power it on, I get a black screen - the computer chimes, the keyboard lights up, but nothing on screen. Until you hear the startup chime two times. I holded for 5 seconds, but holding just for an instant should work Shutdown, unplug everything except power and hold Mensaje original -De: Darren Jones Fecha: 31/12/19 12:49 (GMT+01:00) Para: cdleon Cc: mnemos2000, Manual Asunto: Re: cdleon/macbook-pro-2011-defective-gpu-fix-v2.md OK, I've just tried this on my 2011 MBP (running High Sierra as I updated it from el capitan) I got this far: In this case, you may need to disconnect your HDD drive to boot directly from the USB as you may not be able to select the boot device due to your blank screen. I hope that this will help you out to go ahead but don't worry, your system is not bricked so far. Enviado de Samsung Mobile Dear Darren, What I do in these cases is to perform the nvram command blindless making sure that you don't make any typo and bearing in mind that you will have to use the US keyboard layout (important if you have a foreign keyboard layout). Start in single super user mode. Just type de nvram command making sure that you made no typos. Reboot (enter) Make sure you press and keep pressed the shift key so next boot will be in safe mode. Use GPU fix daemon to make sure the nvram setting is always there and Radeon drivers are kept away. Decide whether you would preferably update to Mojave or Catalina unofficially to have the system working only with Intel chipset if no video hardware acceleration needed, i.e.
